ChronicleRPG
You build the world. An AI storyteller runs every scene in it.
Chronicle's World Studio is where you make a fantasy world other people can actually play in. Shape the land, write its peoples, magic, cast and lore, set the rules, and send an invite. Chronicle plays every innkeeper, rival and villain, and it plays them the way you wrote them. Your players type what their heroes do and the world writes back.
Press "Run game", then "Launch Chronicle". It opens in a new tab and runs in any browser. Building is free and open to any account.
Your world is held by the engine, not left to the AI's memory
Sooner or later, every AI storyteller forgets or bends what you wrote. In Chronicle the parts that matter most aren't left to it. The map, each people's limits, the rules and the money are data the engine holds, and the storyteller has to work within them.
Start with land you can walk across
- Pick one of 14 shapes of land, or draw your own in sea, land, hills and mountains. The generator raises the terrain, runs the rivers, lays the roads and founds the towns.
- It isn't a picture. Players travel it kilometre by kilometre, and the storyteller can only send them to places that are really on it.
- Drag a region's name and its borders regrow as you move. Rename anything, or roll a new name in one of 23 naming styles, from Old English and Nordic to Elven and Draconic.
Rules the storyteller can't talk its way around
20 rules the engine enforces in code, chosen in words rather than numbers:
- When a hero falls: they die for good, or they're beaten and wake later. Turn death off and the tool that kills a hero downs them instead.
- The most dangerous thing the world may bring: anything from trained fighters up to world-enders. Nothing stronger is ever created.
- Companions who can follow one hero: cap it at two and a third won't follow, however well the story is told.
- And more: whether players can fight each other, how much a hero can take, the biggest reward at once, whether great powers can scar the map.
Peoples, magic, a cast and a coin
- Peoples with strength and magic limits from Frail to Legendary. Heroes can't be created past them.
- Magic called whatever your world calls it, described at each scale from A cantrip to Breaks a fortress. Mark a school forbidden and write the price.
- A cast of rulers and villains who exist before anyone meets them, each with a manner, a want and a secret only the storyteller knows.
- Lore entries the storyteller looks up when a scene touches them, rather than guessing.
- Your own money. Say what the smallest coin buys, and prices, rewards and passage all come out in your coins.
Don't want a blank page?
Answer six questions and Chronicle drafts the whole world in a minute or two: premise, regions, peoples, magic, notable figures, lore and money. Then it's yours to edit line by line. Every text box also has a quiet Flesh it out helper, with an undo.
Find the holes before your players do
Ask your world anything before a single player walks in. It answers from your canon and tells you whether the answer is settled by what you wrote, partly inferred, or invented. Check the whole world reports contradictions, gaps and loose ends.
Invite who you like
- Worlds are private. Send an invite link, or publish a public page where people can read about the world and ask to join.
- Walk into your own draft with a throwaway hero to playtest it, then wipe the play records and keep the world.
- The Studio saves as you type and keeps your last 20 versions. The whole world, map included, exports as one file.
What it costs
Building is free, and your first $1 of AI is on Chronicle: enough to draft a world and play it for a while. After that your world runs on your own key, from OpenRouter or any OpenAI-compatible provider, so you pay your provider directly for what your players use. Players never pay. Turns in your world run on your credit or your key.
Chronicle also has a world of its own, Khorvale: a generated archipelago of five regions, invite-only during early access. Questions and access requests: Discord.

This is unlike any AI RPG slop you may have already tried. The developer done an amazing job building a framework of coding, database work and systems overlay that serves to funnel and direct AI usage that creates a believable system and world. It harnesses AI and uses it as an engine behind the scenes instead of trying to make it do the heavy lifting.
The end result is a world building tool that allows you to create virtually whatever world you want your players to live/play in. I have yet to even scratch the surface of the possibilities. As a player, the world feels alive, fun and reacts to your actions.
Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
thank you so much! your feedback means a lot! its a lot of fun to work on and I'm glad someone enjoys it as much as I do!
